Naturally, the commencement speeches were different this year. The last few months of school had been virtual. There was no prom, no senior picnic or any of the other events that most seniors take for granted. Yet the kids still had lots of memories to share.
While the trip was long in terms of miles, I always enjoy the views. South-central Oklahoma is beautiful country. Lots of rolling hills and some gorgeous horse ranches.
The Arbuckle Wilderness is always a nice change of scenery.
They call these the Arbuckle Mountains, though the term "mountain" is relative. They're only 1440 ft high. However, they are significant in that they date back 1.4 billion years. The Precambrian Era granite rocks were later overlain with rhyolites during the Cambrian Period.
Yeah, that's kind of over my head, too, so I'll just enjoy the view.
Between Friday and Saturday, we visited four out of our five kiddos and saw all but one of our grandkids. And we only missed him because he's in basic training in Georgia right now. One did follow us home, though.
When we visited our youngest daughter, Big Daddy had a special treat for her little one.
And me thinks she was pretty happy about it.
How was your weekend?

Before we moved to Texas (many years ago,) I thought traveling to the neighboring state was no big deal. A couple hours in the car and you're there! But Texas is a big place. Oklahoma has its own fair share of space. When you put the two together, that's a long trip!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you were able to go to your grandson's graduation and see so many of your family! It isn't something to be taken for granted these days. :-)
You are correct on all counts, Jan. Especially not taking time with family for granted. Who'd have ever thought?
DeleteWhat a great idea to do the graduation out on the field. I think all of ours were canceled. Some school boards delivered Class of 2020 signs to the graduates which I thought was neat. The principal or vice principal delivered it and the diploma in a kind of curbside ceremony.
ReplyDeleteLove traveling the open country road with you, Mindy!
Kav, there were a lot of graduations cancelled down here, too. This one was postponed from May. It helps that it's a rural area and there were only ninety or so graduates. ;)
DeleteWhat a wonderful trip and visit! Mindy, I'm so glad you were able to do this. Congratulations to your family and God bless our lad in basic training!!!!!
ReplyDeleteRuthy, I'm praying for that boy everyday. And it was nice to get away and enjoy some new scenery.
DeleteAnd the whole rock thing.... Can you imagine the whole universe spinning and rocking on its heels and then forming into MONSTER-SIZED things called planets??????
ReplyDeleteOh, God.... you amaze me!
I KNOW! Boggles the mind, doesn't it?
DeleteMindy, I'm a day late. But thanks for sharing the photos! I'm glad you had a great trip. Congrats to your grandson!
ReplyDeleteNow I want powered doughnuts like your precious little one!
Missy, those little doughnuts are so stinkin' addicting!
