Yeah, they're sorry little trees, but a little bit of gold is still a treat when everything else looks like this.
Maddie is happy to have a little more water in the cow ponds, though.
The cooler weather has brought out some interesting sites, too. We've seen does and fawns throughout the spring and summer, but these fellas dropped by the other day.
And then promptly set out to determine which one would get to stick around.
We were surprised to see this beauty in our yard the other morning. (Note the gopher mound it's got its eye on)
And you never know when you might spot the occasional cowboy.
But sometimes there are sights that just make you sit up and say, "Wow."

I love these glimpses of Texas autumn! What a different kind of fall this is, but those shots, Mindy! That owl. Wow. I can't even imagine how you got that. And the fighting bucks. That's Bambi-friendly stuff right there. Amazing. I think your tenacity comes through in the beautiful shots you get. They're like a glimpse of life through the lens. That's a true gift.
ReplyDeleteWe have our first few inches of snow.... My world is now white and gray. It's a whole different thing than even one week ago.
Interesting contrasts, my friend!
Snow!? And so it begins, right, Ruthy? No snow here, but our timbers are shivering a bit. They say we're supposed to get down to 24 tomorrow morning.
DeleteAs for the pictures, it helps to have a long camera lens and clean windows. Although I think I had to go outside and stand on something to get the bucks, because the top of the fence was in the way. Sometimes I hate that fence, but it prevents the dog from chasing after the deer/cows and it keeps cows out of the yard. Except for Bertha. That in one determined cow.
I'm sighing with fondness over your late (for us) fall while being buried in a record breaking snowfall. Time to get the shovels out. I love the glimpses you brings us of your country life. Can't imagine looking out my window and seeing deer settling a territorial issue or horse and rider strolling by. You live in a completely different world, Mindy!
ReplyDeleteOh -- and is that an owl? I though they were only out at night? You get amazing photos!
Record-breaking snow?! I'm sorry, Kav, but I would think that was totally awesome. But then, any snow we get is gone within days while yours will probably linger for months. And yes, after living in the city forever, it is a treat to see nature playing out right outside my window. Yes, that is an owl. It was in the morning, so I guess he wanted one more snack (in the form of a gopher/mole) before he headed off to bed. We were pretty stunned to see him. And Maddie was just annoyed that we wouldn't let her out so she could chase him.
DeleteBeautiful photos, Mindy! We're finally seeing lots of color around here. I need to stop driving by it and take some photos.
ReplyDeleteYou sure do, Missy.
DeleteHow lovely!
ReplyDeleteAnd the bucks fighting! It's mating season here for the mule deer (the whitetails will start soon!) but we've only seen one buck of any size. He chased the little yearling off that had been hanging around and gathered his harem.
Everybody is happy, except Jack. The buck REALLY doesn't like him hanging around! So we keep him close.
And I had to laugh at Maddie in the cow pond. She must get a lot of baths when she's been out playing like that!
Jan, Maddie doesn't usually get too bad around the ponds, but when she decides to roll in cow patties, well, then it's bath time. And poor Jack. He just wants to play with that buck.
