Embracing Spring

Spring is coming on like gangbusters here on the coastal plains of Texas. Wildflowers are turning roadsides into colorful spectacles, surfaces are coated with yellow pine pollen and it's time to get outside and show the yard a little TLC.
Dixie was particularly happy about that. She lounged and napped on the grass or patio all day long.

While she slept, we were busy cleaning out flowerbeds, digging up and replanting some bulbs before adding a fresh layer of mulch.
One amaryllis has already bloomed while others aren't far behind.
And get a load of this incredible hydrangea.
I love hydrangeas and the colors in this one are just gorgeous.

Of course, the highlight of spring in Texas is the wildflowers.
Especially the bluebonnets.
Whether they're sitting beside red...
Orange or white...
They're beauty is hard to beat. And there's nothing quite like a wildflower bouquet.
Though they're pretty spectacular by themselves, too.
The only thing better than wildflowers are babies and puppies.
Taegan has come up with her own special way of hugging. She simply touches her forehead to whatever or whoever she wants to show some love. This time Maddie was the lucky recipient. So glad my daughter captured this sweet moment.

Now it's your turn. What are some of your favorite flowers? Are you getting close to seeing them or does winter still have you in its grip?

  1. Such beautiful pictures!

Bluebonnets were always my favorite when we lived in Texas. I remember driving from Abilene to San Antonio one April...bluebonnets covered the hills, especially near King Ranch. So lovely!

I saw the first signs of our tulips peeking out of the ground yesterday! But that's as close as we are to flowers. The temperatures are warming up, but we're expecting more snow on Friday. The flowers won't be showing up until April...about the time the baby bison make their appearance!

  2. I was going to post some photos of spring in Brooklyn tomorrow, but we're not nearly so far along, so I guess I'll wait a week. Your flowers are lovely, Mindy.

  3. The first hanging basket I make is petunias. I love them. I also love hydrangeas. I bought two new pink ones last year and am anxious to see if they made it through the winter. I love the purple too. I had one and, when my dad died, I had to get someone to cut the grass and they mowed it down. Dummies! I'll have to be on the lookout for a new one.

    1. They mowed over the hydrangea! I agree with you, Linda. Dummies. I love petunias, too. That is until late July when they're withering from the heat, looking all scraggly. Still, that won't stop me from adding some to my collection here shortly.

  4. Oh my stars, this is so sweet!!!!! I love watching spring as it slow-rolls its way up the country. That makes it even more exciting when it finally gets here! Two nights of peepers... then freezing, so that means one more night for peepers to freeze and we can believe that spring is really here, LOL! The old saying is that the spring peepers have to freeze THREE TIMES... and then it's true spring!

    Thank you, Mindy!!!!

    1. Ruthy, so I guess the anticipation for spring rolls it's way up the country, huh? I do remember living in Michigan and longing for spring. But here, it just rolls on whether we're ready for it or not.

    1. Hydrangeas are my favorites, too, Missy. And I love that mix of colors. The bluebonnets are our springtime treat. Some years they're plentiful, others not so much. We've had a pretty good crop this year.
