Missy Tippens
I have a new appliance in my kitchen! Thanks to Audra Harders's recommendation, I splurged and bought an air fryer for myself during all the big sales last week. I used it yesterday for the first time and thought I'd share!
I had a craving for tater tots. :) Plus, I wanted to add some veggies. Audra had said how much she loves to make crunchy vegetable snacks, so I poured a bag of frozen, whole green beans onto the tots.
I cooked for 18 minutes at 400 degrees, shaking halfway through.
The tots turned out great! And with no oil at all. The beans were overdone. I learned a lesson! I should have added them about halfway through when I was doing the shaking. I think it would have been just perfect that way.
You can see that the beans look a little dark. They were hard to chew--although I found some that were still good to eat.
I'm pleased and look forward to trying other dishes in my new air fryer. I especially want to try chicken wings! I LOVE wings at restaurants but the frying oil and skin make them high-calorie. I want to try them with and without skin in the air fryer. Will let you know how it goes!
Have y'all tried this gadget yet?

I am running out of space for kitchen gadgets, but an air fryer is on the list when we have room! The smell regular frying makes drives me nuts. This sounds good. I never would have thought to be frozen vegetables in an air fryer. I would have assumed they would be mushy. Glad you found some beans that were good!
ReplyDeleteKatie, I admit, it is a counter space hog! But I cleared out my old stand mixer and gave it a corner home. :)
DeleteMissy, I've had my air fryer for almost three years now and we love it. It gets used so often that it's earned a permanent spot on the kitchen counter.
ReplyDeleteMindy, I had forgotten you used one! Yes, this is huge enough that it needs to stay out permanently. Would not be fun to get out each time.
DeleteI'm not ready to jump into air frying...yet. I said the same thing about the Instant Pot, and I'm still amazed at how much I use it!
ReplyDeleteKeep sharing your frying journey with us, Missy. I'd love to see how the wings turn out!
Jan, I'll let you know!
DeleteLook at you playing with a new gadget! So fun!!!
ReplyDeleteThose beans look awful, darling. But you already know that!
I love tater tots. Is that a terrible thing to confess? I love them!
Yeah, Ruthy, they looked shriveled up and awful! LOL But a few that were buried underneath were good. I look forward to trying again! Today I made a bag of frozen asparagus spears and they were good!
DeleteI haven't purchased an air fryer yet but it is on my list. We love chicken wings at our house but baked just doesn't taste as good as fried.
ReplyDeleteI would never have thought to try frozen vegetables in an air fryer. Thank you for sharing your cooking experiment.
Kathy, I'm glad you stopped by! I think you'll enjoy it. Maybe you'll get one for Christmas (or buy yourself one for Christmas like I did!). :)
DeleteI have been tempted by air fryers. I saw a friend post that she made bacon in one - it was crispy and didn't make the house smell of bacon. That plus tater tots, sounds like good enough reason for me to own one! :)
ReplyDeleteBeth, combine the two and fry together and you'll think you've died and gone to heaven! haha
