Chocolate Dream Pie

Another Family Fave.

Chocolate Dream Pie

Yes, it's easy.

Yes, it's everywhere.

Yes, I can make a BETTER homemade pie but my stinkin' kids like this one best!!!!

It must be the chemical aftertaste, but no matter... it's a favorite here and I've got to share because we did carrot cake and chocolate cream pie for Dave's birthday....

Dave doesn't eat either, but I figured the rest of us would love it!!!!  :)

So here's the simplistic and family favorite Dream Pie:

2 pks. Instant pudding, any flavor (if you use something other than chocolate we'll LAUGH at you, but you are supposed to be able to use any flavor. I wouldn't know because I wouldn't dare...)
1 box Dream Whip
2 3/4 cups milk
1 teaspoon vanilla

Make Dream Whip according to package directions. Add pudding mix and the remaining 1 3/4 cup of milk. Blend on low until mixed, then mix on high for two minutes.

Pour into baked pie shell or cookie crust and chill.

Yes.

That's it.

That's the sum total and I cannot tell you how quickly Dave's children and grandchildren jumped into that pie. I'd made extra filling by using a large box of pudding and an extra envelope of Dream Whip and adjusting the milk..... and filled 7 little cute plastic cups.... Like this:

Thinking the kids would like them.

I don't believe the kids ever SAW THEM. I think their parents wolfed them down while we kept the children chained to Elsa and Ana's fate in FROZEN.....

While March Madness basketball played in the living room with Dave and his guys hunkered around, watching for who would win....

And with Michigan's win, Dave won our little gambling party pool two weeks before the final game because the rest of us chose poorly....

But it was  his birthday so we acted nice about it.

Mostly.

I might have mentioned how I was going to buy some cute shoes if I won....

Pfft.

Who needs shoes??????  :)

  1. Wow we'd eat it too! They would probably love dirt cake..there's a chocolate version too! And u can add gummy worms though we never did. My roomie in college took me to her house several times..her mom baked bday cakes for a part time business and these people would pay a fortune for cake mix! Her main recipe was to dump a couple packages hytop store brand strawberry cake mix, prob the eggs and oil, couple cartons frozen strawberries, and the secret ingredient- couple envelopes of dream whip, kitchen aid did the mixing and she put into pans and baked then added icing..heck it might've been dream whip too! She could make a killer Italian cream cake from scratch but people mostly wanted the strawberry cake.

  2. Can you believe I never even heard of chocolate pie until I started hanging around with Americans? So I decided to get courageous and try to make one. Don't know where I got the recipe from but oh my goodness it was dreadful...so sickeningly sweet I couldn't eat it. And I love chocolate and sweets!!! This one sounds like a better fit. Must try but only when I have a crowd coming over to my house for supper.

  5. Oh, I love this pie. I haven't thought about it for years!

I had a chocolate-peanut butter cream pie at Das Essenhaus in Middlebury, Indiana on Saturday. Think chocolate cream with peanut butter crumbles between the pudding and the crust.

Yes, it's that good. Now I just have to figure out how to make the peanut butter crumbles. :)

  6. I'm not a fan of chocolate pie, but I had to laugh when the parents ate the 7 little cups of filling! Those kids have to learn the hard way to stay on their toes!!
