Corn-on-the-Cobb the Easy Way

Missy Tippens

I was going re-share this preparation method but couldn't find my old post! So instead, I'll just share a video where I learned how to do this. I love this method!

I usually put 4 ears on a microwave-safe plate and cook for about 8-10 minutes. This past week, I did two ears (that had actually already been shucked) for about 4 minutes and that worked just fine.

Of course, add butter and salt (the best part!). I've really enjoyed sprinkling my corn with Maldon Sea Salt flakes so that we get nice occasional crunch.

Hope you enjoy trying this!

  1. I think I remember you sharing this, Missy. And I still haven't tried it. The grandkids would love doing this, I'm sure, because it's like magic. Thanks for sharing it again.

    1. Mindy, the only difficulty is that it's really hot! You might want to buy some of those cool gloves he was using. I have a silicone mitt that I use on one hand but it's not very flexible.

  2. Missy, my family has made our corn on the cob this way ever since you showed us the first time, years ago. It's my grown daughter's Go-to method for cooking corn.

Funny note: last year we rented a vacation house in Maine over the beginning of July. My husband bought these cool corn roaster things to use on the grill, and we planned on a 4th of July cookout.

Except when we opened the grill, it was so disgusting and rusty that the inside was literally crumbling. Change of plans. Fortunately, they did have a microwave so this is how the corn got done.

    1. Mary Cate, that's tough when your whole plan gets suddenly waylaid! I'm glad you were able to use the microwave. :)

    2. Oh, Cate, I've opened grills before and been unpleasantly surprised... even by my own, LOL! We are death on grills here.

I blame the weather but it's probably US....

      Sigh.... :)

  3. I'm like Mary Cate - this is the only way I cook corn on the cob now! So easy and quick!

    Thanks for sharing again, Missy!

  4. Am the the only dinosaur on the planet that doesn't have a microwave? I hear your collective thunderous gasp. But I did notice the first honest to goodness fresh corn in the produce section of the grocery store this week! That's so exciting!

  5. This is such a fun easy way to do corn! Honestly, if I just want an ear for a snack, this is the way to go.

I've noticed that the side burner on my new grill doesn't boil water easily. The BTUs must be lower than the old grill... and it doesn't make the bottom of my pans black with propane soot.... So I'm not sure about the trade off. A burner that doesn't boil a kettle of corn water...

    Or sooty pans!

    Missy, thanks for sharing this!
