Happy Tuesday, everyone. Today I'm here to confess that I'm in a food rut. Oh, I have been cooking, but everything's just the same old same.
Beef.
Chicken.
Pork
Fish.
You ever feel like that? That you keep cooking the same old things the same way over and over again?
I guess I've been expending too many creativity cells on stories and decorating to do anything creative with my food. Never mind the fact that I have dozens of recipes that I've printed from the Food Network and here at the Yankee-Belle.
Yes, it's true. I'm my own worst enemy.
However, I did bake some cupcakes this week.
Okay, actually a LOT of cupcakes, for a bridal shower at church. These were just a few I had left over.
And I've got to show you these crazy dogs of mine.
No, that right paw is not on the floor. It's just dangling, while the other is on the window sill, beside her cheek. Still, how can this be comfortable?
And this one...
She just rolls around, waiting for someone to love on her.
So now I'm going to turn things over to you. Do you ever find yourself in a food rut? If so, what sets you free?

Our biggest struggle with just two of us if we are too tired it is too easy to just say let's go out! When I finally get in the groove of cooking again it is easier. So I make sure I thaw something out because then I have to use it before it goes bad. This week we are eating a lot of chicken. Tonight we started with baked chicken thighs and tomorrow will be chicken tacos for me and I will cook up some peppers and onions for my husband to have fajitas. LOVE the dog photos! Dogs are great humor aren't they?!
ReplyDeleteKatie, I find myself just wanting to go out a lot, too. Problem is, we live in such a small town that our choices are very limited. Still, it is easier to just say lets go.
DeleteGreat use of the leftover chicken. I'm grilling up a bunch of chicken thighs tonight (yes, I actually set something out to thaw), so you may have just inspired me for tomorrow night.
LOVE the dog pictures. Poor baby is falling asleep on guard duty...you work her too hard. And that there is your own version of a bear skin rug. I'd be willing to rush down there and prop that chinny-chin and rub that belly but I'm too scared of the snakes so I'm whimping out. :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm always in a rut because when I make a recipe I have it in leftovers for the whole week. Makes things easy though. Just toss a salad and heat the entree and dinner is served.
Kav, there are no snakes in the house, so I'm pretty sure you'd be safe. And the dogs would love you.
DeleteBeing in a rut wouldn't be so bad if it was just me. I can graze, grab whatever whenever. But even then, sometimes I just get bored.
I'm cooking today for the first time in a couple weeks. That illness I had took me out for the count, so we ate a lot of sandwiches and soup. But slowly and surely I'm getting back to normal!
ReplyDeleteAnd looking at your pictures is REALLY making me hungry. Yes, I think it's time to start cooking again!
I love those dog pics. :-)
Jan, I'm glad you're finally feeling better. That really took the wind out of your sails.
DeleteI just get bored with the same old thing, time after time. Yet, lately, I can't seem to muster the creativity to break free. Maybe inspiration will strike soon.
Always. I've probably turned my kids off spaghetti for the rest of their lives by making it weekly for so many years. LOL
ReplyDeleteI definitely have my go-to recipes that I make over and over. They're usually easy and quick and made from ingredients I usually have on hand.
Missy, I'm cracking up here, because the same thing happened with my kids. It's such an easy meal, though and it's my husband's favorite. Every time I ask him what he wants for dinner, he says spaghetti. Now I tell him no.
DeleteThis makes me laugh because my husband and I woke up late one day so I made spaghetti for "brunch"
DeleteCrazy dogs! My dog lays with his head on the corner of the wooden coffee table, which looks sooo uncomfortable!
ReplyDeleteI don't know how they keep coming up with these crazy stances.
DeleteAfter my dogs went for an unscheduled walk last week, I'm just so glad to have them safely here in the house... the BRATS!!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd this three months has been so crazy busy in and out of the house that I'm a bore of a cook right now... but a good storyteller! :)
Mindy, up here we're blaming this on the weather.
We need spring. It's a consensus!!!
