Belgian Waffles

Missy, here. I'm still wimping out on you. Hard to type with bandaged finger. :) So I'm sharing a recipe for Belgian waffles. Santa brought our family a new waffle maker, so we had waffles Christmas for dinner! :)

I just bought a small, low-priced waffle maker, but it did a pretty good job. I used one of the recipes in the manual. You can find it by clicking here. Just blend everything but the egg whites. Then fold them in.

Yummy!

Are you a waffle person or a pancake person?

  1. pancake unless someone else fixes them!
hope you didn't burn your finger this time! ouch!
btw I bought the wrong chicken sausage for the kale soup - it has apple in it - sounds weird but can that be used or should I feed it to the dogs?

  2. Apple sausage would be wonderful, Susanna! It will just add a slightly different taste to the soup, but I'd use it. Absolutely!

And Missy, I put a link to my favorite Belgian Waffle recipe on facebook yesterday, how funny is that??? It's http://allrecipes.com/recipe/belgian-waffles/
and this makes great, tender, flavorful Belgian waffles. I make them for breakfast, for desserts (ice cream sundaes) and for snacks (like fried dough and waffles at the carnival, just sprinkle with sugar and hand out for wonderful snacky goodness!) The recipe takes a few minutes to make, but once you've done it a few times, it's kind of automatic.

And it's the best Belgian Waffle Recipe I've found, but I'm open to trying others, folks!

  3. We had this Christmas morning. I like mine dusted with powdered sugar and with a small dish of real maple syrup on the side to dip into.

  4. thanks Ruthy - guess I'll try it. I've never done much with sausage so this business of mixing fruit in it threw me for a loop! (sorry doggies!)I did have some with green onions and some jalapeno in it once and that was some good stuff!
now I'm wanting waffles...and I do NOT need another kitchen gadget taking up space or getting shoved in a cabinet...

  5. Pancakes are the choice at our house, but only because I don't have a waffle maker!

When all the children were home, I had a breakfast menu that I followed every week, and pancakes were on Monday. I'd whip up a batch, and then the week would take off.

I think I'll always associate pancakes with Monday morning school! Such good memories.

I've been telling the boys (18 and 19 years old) that these are the "good old days". They just look at me like I have two heads.

  6. If I had a waffle maker, I'd be a waffle person. I love the crisy outside of a waffle. And the way the maple syrup pools in the little squares...oh and the melted butter too! Yum. But I just have a frying pan so I'm a pancake girl. Hope your finger heels quickly.

  7. whoa checked out that link Ruthy - didn't know there was butter in those suckers! no wonder they're good! hadn't thought of using them as dessert - was just thinking syrup. sound much more appealing with come dessert stacked on top!

  8. Well, I'm really a French Toast kind of girl (challah bread with a sprinkling of powdered sugar), but I have that exact same waffle iron, probably one of my best investments ever since we use it every Saturday am. If no French Toast, then I'll have to go with waffles.

  9. Oh, Patricia! Yes! French Toast! I like to make it with King's Hawaiian bread - it probably has a similar taste to challah, don't you think?

  10. King's Hawaiian bread makes great French Toast, but I like mine with Italian bread cut thick. And really egg-drenched. Then real maple syrup drenched. Oh, yum! Patricia, I've never used the Challah bread. Gotta check it out.

The waffles... Yes, the butter and real maple syrup, Tina! I love them with real maple syrup and it's one of my indulgences. Because it's a memory maker!

  13. So sorry I never checked in yesterday. I was at my parents' with no internet. I thought I would go into town with my computer, but my mom and I did a marathon of The Tudors ALL DAY LONG. Literally. It was so fun. LOL

Oh, wow. Y'all have me craving French toast now!! That's probably my favorite over pancakes or waffles. :)
