Hello everybody! The Fresh Pioneer is here and I've got a sweet dessert I made for the first time back January of 2013 and it's sort of become a favorite in our house. Since we made it recently for Isabel's birthday, I thought I'd bring back the post and celebrate this delicious dish again!
The
Fresh Pioneer is back and Edna has returned from vacation, so we're ready to
make something really tasty.
I love brownies. All brownies. I have never met a brownie I did not love. I don't care if they're skinny, fluffy, cakey, nutty, crumbly, fudgy, edges or middles. I love them all. But what about flavored brownies? How much can you add to a brownie before it loses its 'brownieness'? My daughter wanted to make cream cheese brownies, but with raspberry flavoring.

Ok, raspberry and cream cheese (thinking raspberries over plain cheesecake) I can understand.
But
all three together? Hm.
So, we started with a normal cream cheese swirl recipe.
10 TBS butter softened, mixed with 4 eggs, and 1 1/2 cups sugar.
Melt 8 ounces bittersweet chips. Combine 1/4 c. cocoa powder, 1/2 tsp baking powder, 1/2 tsp salt and one cup plus 2 tbs flour.

Edna doing her thang. Check that flour on
her underside. She just does what a gal's gotta do. And when it comes to
brownies, we do we have to.
6 ounces cream cheese softened, add 2 tbs sugar, and 1 tsp raspberry flavoring. After pouring the brownies into the pan, spoon the cream cheese mix over the top and swiiiiirrrrrrlllllll.

Bake at 350F for 40 minutes. So said the
directions, but these were done sooner. So, check early and often.
My happy child. And since she's a tween,
and soon to be a TEENAGER in a few months, I have to post this other picture I
got. I think we laughed off all the brownie calories. I'll never erase it. I'll
save it forever. Because it says so much about that brownie loving gene I
passed on...
Prepare yourselves...
Ready???
Ok. (And if you don't hear from me again, it's because the almost-teenager has killed me and buried my poor body in the garden.)

Isn't that HEELARIOUS?? You put a plate of
brownies in front of me and I look like that, too. When I pushed the button to
check the photo, and this showed up, I laughed so hard I was on my knees in the
kitchen. And she's got a great sense of humor so just MAYBE I'll be forgiven
for posting it.
If not, I bequeath Edna to Kav. They can write children's books together.
Until next time!

This is the 2014 me again. This child recently turned 14 and we STILL laugh at that picture! She was due on Valentine's Day (actually the feast day of St. Cyril and Methodius, who invented the Russian alphabet) and I was VERRRRRY excited. But she decided to arrive early!
So this St. Valentine's Day bake something delicious, take a silly picture, and treasure the people around you!
Until next week!
Happy Birthday Isabel!
ReplyDeletethese look good - obviously!
today is supposed to be house cleaning day - major stuff- friend coming over to help and see how much we can get done before we're both pooped (hven't told her but I'm pooped already and she's not even here yet...)
STILL thinking about the lasagna from yesterday - or day before- can't keep my days straight!
Susanna
Hi Susanna! I hear you on the house cleaning. I just saw the laundry pile and almost fainted. Where is my maid???
DeleteI'm with Susanna. I am totally on that lasagna. This is a perfect dessert to accompany. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI KNOW. I can't stop thinking of the lasagna, too.
DeleteAnd on a random note. How come I can't share to Pinterest or Google Plus.
ReplyDeleteIf you go to Sharethis.com you can add it. That's how I added it to Seekerville.
Um, no clue. I noticed there was no button, but the only thing different is going through Google Chrome. But I don't have a choice because IE doesn't let me upload here anymore.
DeleteTina, hover over the top left corner of the photos, and you can pin them. G+ shows up at the end of each post. I see it on this one.
Deleteyou just talked greek Tina...I've heard of pinterest and google at least but not google plus...I'm doing good to print the recipes using the print button though honestly seeing a printed pic of mindy's nose with the tubing at the top of the recipe printout is off-putting LOL! might have to cut you out Mindy (or spill tomato sauce on that one little part!)
ReplyDeleteand yep I'm craving that lasagna AND brownies - could do with the nutella version too! alternate - raspberry then nutella raspberry then nutella...
Susanna
ooops - well as you can see I DO have a blogger ID - I don't recommend reading my blog though because it's boorrrriinnng and more like a journal LOL! oh well...
DeleteSusanna
Susanna! You aren't anonymous anymore!
DeleteSusanna! Love your ID! Not just a blue head anymore, girl. You're a big orange G!
DeleteAnd yes, I saw the Nutella right after I posted. That's what I get for not popping in to see what we're eating!
hey I'm good with a week of brownies! probably my best week ever LOL!
DeleteWow...I bet you could bake a different brownie each day of the month and not repeat a single recipe. I'm loving these brownie variations. I'm probably making a silly face with drool on my chin right now. Thankfully no one's around to take my picture!
ReplyDeleteLOL. I'm more of a cookie person. I love all brownies, but if I had to choose between a perfect, crispy little tea cookie (with tea, of course) and a brownie? tea cookie wins.
Deleteno way - a good moist brownie wins with me - with the hot tea of course! gimme brownies!
DeleteRaspberry and chocolate are meant to be together! I love the duo!
ReplyDeleteI've been adding a tiny bit of raspberry flavoring to my coffee pot and I looooove the flavors!
DeleteBirthdays are so much fun! And you only turn 13 - or 14 - once! Happy Birthday, Isabel!
ReplyDeleteThese brownies...delicious looking. And perfect for Valentine's Day!
Our tradition around here are to make my grandmother's sugar cookies (she always made them for us when we went to visit), cut out with heart shaped cookie cutters. Sometimes they get some pink frosting, but mostly they get eaten :)
Oh, sweet! I love that! Unfortunately, her birthday happened during the big snow storm. We were homebound all week. So NOW she gets to choose some sort of fun outing. I'm hearing pizza or a movie. Siblings are trying to sway her decision.
DeleteI caved and arrived here from Facebook... just to peek at how this sinfully sounding dessert was made, you understand. Just to have a look. I'm trying hard not to remember that I actually do have cream cheese in the fridge. No raspberry flavouring but I can't imagine a few spoonfuls of raspberry jelly wouldn't work reasonably well as a substitute. I *might* have to try it out... just to see if it works, of course. Not because I'd want to pig out on it. Of course not. (I'm not fooling anyone, am I?)
ReplyDeleteHaaha! Just save it for a holiday, then you'll only get once piece and have to share the rest!
ReplyDeleteI remember that picture so well! It just makes me laugh to see it, and I love tweens and teens. They're like the craziest, best things going.
ReplyDeleteAnd there is never, ever anything wrong with raspberry and chocolate. A love match if ever there was one!
