Sriracha Dipping Sauce and a Book Release

I'm sore.

I spent the weekend painting. The guest room Saturday, the master bedroom Sunday. The master is the one that kicked my butt. Tall ceilings meant lots of reaching, stretching and going up and down the ladder. Of course, it was all worth it. The rooms looks great and it's another item ticked off of our to-do list as we prep the house to go on the market after the first of the year.

Sorry, no pix, though. You know me, so eager to get started that pictures never even cross my mind.

All that work (yes, it was a lone endeavor) meant no cooking, though. Instead, I made hubby take me out one night and order pizza the next. The perfect trade off, right?

So today I thought I share one of my new favorite pantry staples
Sriracha sauce (pronounced sir-ah-cha). Nowadays, you can find this at most grocery stores on the Asian food aisle.

Now, I'm not a fan of super spicy foods. However, sometimes things need a little kick. And there's just something about the flavor of this Korean hot sauce that does the trick.

One of my favorite things to make with it is a dipping sauce that is perfect with chicken fingers, SWEET POTATO FRIES (love those) or anything else you might want to dip.

First, I start with some regular old mayonnaise and ketchup. About half and half.

Now add a little sriracha. And by a little, I mean a little. You can always add more later.

Whisk that all together and taste.
Hmm... Needs a little more sriracha.
Whisk again.
Taste again.

Another ingredient I add on occasion is Worcestershire sauce. It simply adds another dimension of flavor.
Like I said, I absolutely love this with sweet potato fries. Shoot, I love sweet potato fries just about any way, but the little bit of heat with the sweetness of the fries makes them even better.
Oh, and it's also tasty spread on burgers.

In other news, guess what is now on Walmart shelves?
I love this story. And I love that it's out right before Memorial Day because Kaleb, the hero in this book, is a wounded warrior who knows the true meaning of Memorial Day and pays tribute to it in the story.
I hope you'll consider picking up a copy.

  1. Congratulations on your release. The color sort of goes well with sweet potato fries. That was so convenient of Love Inspired. The dip looks yummy.

I have to tell you that I have this amazing food memory. Appleton, Wisconsin for the Writers Police Academy. The Appleton Beer Factory. VANILLA SWEET POTATO FRIES. Came with two dipping sauces: marshmallow and maple. Died and gone to heaven.

Now why are you selling your gorgeous house??

    1. Wow! So they really played on the sweet part of sweet potato fries. I've never seen that. Wonder if they were playing off of all those sweet potato casseroles that get drowned in marshmallows over the holidays. And by the way, good food is always worth remembering, Tina.

We're selling because we're moving to the ranch. We were just waiting for,our youngest to finish high school and hubby to retire.

    2. Now I want those fries Tina was talking about! I love sweet potatoes, any old way.... Mindy, how much fun to consolidate and move to the ranch! Won't that be so much easier? And so COOL???????? Rancher Mindy!!!!

    3. Ruthy, I used to hate sweet potatoes because the only way I ever had them was covered with marshmallows. Then I discovered REAL sweet potatoes, not the kind that came out of a can, and fell in love.

Yeah, going rural is definitely going to be a change. But I can't wait.

  2. And you got real people on the cover. I favor real people over fake people covers. Nicely done LI.

    1. Yes, my first cover with people. I was stoked. And they were true to the details I gave them. Such as the hero's straightened left leg. ;)

    2. I love that the heroine has those cute shorts on and hiking boots! Right? That's what it looks like, and it's awesome!

    3. Yep. Grace isn't a girlie girl. Feminine, but she's former military and knows how to take care of herself. At least that's what she thinks. Until she runs into this guy who seems to anticipate her every need.

  3. Mindy, congrats on the new release!!

This sauce sounds amazing. And simple! I'll give it a try sometime. And I do believe I'll add the Worcestershire sauce since I love it so much.

    1. Thanks, Missy. Yes, this is very simple. And very tasty, too. ;)

  4. SWEET POTATO FRIES!!!!!! I haven't had those in months...like maybe since last fall even. Now I'm craving some! And I might just have to try this dip as well!

I have your book...almost. It's in my Harlequin order but it's taking a loooonnnnnnggggggg time for delivery. Or maybe it's just that I'm anxiously awaiting the arrival that makes it seem so long. LOL

    1. Kav, I'm the same way when it comes to sweet potato fries. All they have to do is cross my mind and I'm hooked. Gotta have 'em.

I hope you enjoy the story and will look forward to hearing your thoughts.

  5. I found "Falling for the Hometown Hero" in my local Walmart last night!

Yes, people there now know I'm certifiable. Hubby has always known it. :)

And this sauce looks fabulous. I love, love, love sweet potato fries (way too much), and this sauce looks like a good addition.

Thanks for the recipe, and have fun with your house prepping.

BTW - my living room (with high ceilings) needs to be painted. Are you up for another one?

    1. Woo-hoo! I made to the Dakotas. Thanks for checking, Jan.

Sounds like we're all going to have to meet up at conference and go out for sweet potato fries. Anyone else in?

And no, I do not want to paint your living room, Jan. No matter how enticing it is to come back to the Black Hills for a visit. I have plenty of painting left to do here, along with one more room with those same heights. Guess I'd better remember to stretch before starting that one.

    2. Jan! I'll come paint your room, I love painting! Move closer, okay???? But if I'm out there, we can have a painting party.

    3. Hey, if there's a painting party, I'm coming.

  6. Congrats on the release, Mindy. I adore this cover!!!

Your sauce reminds me of my father's favorite salad dressing - just the mayonnaise and ketchup. Yum! I wonder if he would have liked the additional heat.

    1. Thanks, Mary Cate. I love the cover, too.

Ketchup and mayo salad dressing, huh? Was that his version of Thousand Island? Sweet memory, though. Sounds like it might be comfort food for you.
