So this is how I see the Peaceable Kingdom at the farm... and how I'd like to imagine our country getting along.
Maggie and Milky Way, like Tod and Copper, friends for life.
They are so cute!
And this kitten tries to nurse on Maggie... who has never had a puppy... and Maggie lets her. So we've got wonderful (and weird!) maternal instincts!
So we've been making pretty things for the farm season because this is the time we can spend a few hours to do it... and I have some young buds who are between semesters. Sweet!
So this is Lena (five years old) working with me on Sunday.... Train 'em young!
Christina's rustic flags.... so popular last year! Amazing what one can do with old fencing!
We're getting together every few weeks to create as a group and doing what we can in between... and it's fun! A pot of chicken soup, some Swedish meatballs, Italian bread and pasta... and a cake to celebrate a precious life, gone too soon... our little Joseph who's waiting for us in heaven. No doubt being rocked by Lisa right now... She's got him in heaven... I've got her littles (and not so littles) down here. And we move on.... because that's what folks do when they love one another.
So that's our week... we did have one hour of sun one day... and maybe one hour of sun another day in December. Crazy cloudy and gray here, no snow, just icy mist and rain, very British!!!!
But that's all right. We can't change the weather.
We can change our hearts... So from our farm to you, we're sending winter blessings as I work on finishing a Christmas mystery and busy hands create this, that and the other thing!
Oh, and then this... I swapped out Christmas lights for white lights to go through March because it is SO DARK AND GRAY up here.... But I do love this effect! Winter White! #MustLoveTwinkleLights
There's just something heartening about seeing the white lights in the depths of winter. It brings a smile to people's faces, driving by...
Okay, that's it for now.... Until next week from the farm!

Ruthy, first of all, I think white lights should be allowed throughout the year. They just make me happy. Second, how soon can I place my wreath order? Such beautiful things going on the farm.
ReplyDeleteAgreed! I love white twinkle lights! They make everything look so cheerful! And isn't this a fun twist???? Branching out, one fun project at a time!
DeleteOoohhh -- you've given me a spark of creativity! I haven't done anything crafty in years largely due to my loss of joint mobility so no sewing -- either with a machine or by hand but I could do a rag wreath! And I have left over flannel shirts of my dad's that I wanted to sew into a quilt but that's beyond me now but I could make a wreath with them. How long and wide are the fabric strips? Thanks for the inspiration, Ruthy.
ReplyDeleteAnd I adore that Maggie and Milky Way (love that name) picture. My neighbourhood is bursting at the seams with doodles -- lots of COVID puppies. One -- a Bernese Mountain Dog / Poodle mix just had puppies. Twelve!!!!! I am so tempted.
We looked at Bernese Mountain Dog/Poodle mixes before we got Sam (they call them Bernadoodles around here!)
DeleteCute, cute puppies. Big, big dogs. We were so tempted...
Kav, I think one of Ruthy's wreaths would be a fantastic use of your dad's flannel shirts! How precious that you have them.
DeleteAgreed! The flannel would be awesome.
DeleteLove those Bernadoodles! Jan's right, they're big dogs, but so stinkin' pretty. Land o' mercy, I'd be all over one of them.... Be still my heart.
DeleteI love the wreaths! And keeping busy! What really struck me is your plan to get together every few weeks - we've missed that during the past year. Making plans, working toward the future, getting together. What fun!
ReplyDeleteMaggie and Milky Way look like they're made for each other, and I can just see them growing old together (as long as Milky Way sticks close to Maggie and doesn't go wandering!)
Thanks for the visit to the farm. :-)
I want to see them grow old together, too. They are such buddies... and we loved the getting together to work. This is such a big old farmhouse, we can be pretty distant and still work in the same room. And we've decided life doesn't come with guarantees, but enough was enough.
DeleteAnd we invited Cuomo but never heard back!!!! ;)
And five days later the governor announced that he's ready to open everything back up... I can't even talk rationally about it.
So we kept our distance, but we had a ball and we're going to keep doing it every few weeks to get some stock made.
Jan, it made us all so happy!
Ruthy, I love your wreaths! You should share instructions on how to do it next week!
ReplyDeleteAs for the lights... I have been feeling the same. I think I may leave the Christmas white lights that I have wrapped around the banister that leads upstairs. I think it does a lot to make the house feel cozy. I love your lights!
Missy, it's amazing how that little bit of tiny light makes a difference... and even that runner on the stairway, how pretty that would be?
DeleteWe do one big room in white lights, and the opposite room in colored lights, so I only have to change the big bay window and front window... and take down the garlands outside, so not a big deal. But I wish I'd gotten more white lights back in October. Every place ran out and I couldn't get more to do the outside railings. Next year I'll grab them earlier.... it's nice to do the front railings with the white lights, too. And Missy, that's actually a good idea. There are plenty of YouTube videos out there, but it's fun to show folks how we adapt it here.
Love those wreaths! I was just thinking the other day about things we did as kids (like working in the garden) that we didn't see as work and enjoyed being together as a family and how much I miss that. How different kids are today!
ReplyDeleteI'm leaving my tree up as well and I swapped the ornaments out for snowflakes, but like you I couldn't find any more lights either. I'll have to stock up too.
