Yummy Pumpkin Bread!
Missy, here. Shhh...come closer...before Ruthy arrives. Let me tell you my secret for the very best pumpkin bread. It's quick, simple, and you can't go wrong. And yes, it's very, very yummy. My secret???
Pillsbury Quick Bread mixes! I buy multiple boxes and make loaves as gifts at Christmas. The only adjustment I make is to add just a bit more oil than the directions call for.
If pumpkin isn't your thing, try the banana bread mix (and add a mashed ripe banana and some chopped pecans or walnuts to make it even more like homemade).
Okay, now that I've shared that secret, you have to promise not to tell Ruthy. She'll shame me for sure. But not all of us can be Susie Homemaker like the Yank!

I love those "almost homemade" tips! One tip I've just discovered: Add about a half cup of mayonnaise to any cake recipe, including mixes, to make people think they're from scratch. Makes them REALLY moist. I thought it was crazy at first, but if you think about the ingredients in it (oil, eggs) it stands to reason.

I'm being defibrillated as we speak! And I love your tip, Natalie.... I'll try that this weekend. I've done chocolate mayo cake, and it was good, and most of my cakes come from DH or Supermoist cake mixes. They're the best.

Natalie, my daughter just heard that tip on tv yesterday and was saying it sounded gross! LOL But I told her, like you said, it's just mayo and eggs so will really make it moist. :) So thanks for reminding me! I"ll have to try it.

Not only did I used to MAKE them, I buy them when short on time. And/or sleep, LOL!
Oooh, I've never tried grocery store brownies. Will have to do this!
ReplyDeleteBTW, if you have 30 minutes, the very best I've found are the Duncan Hines Dark Chocolate brownie mixes. Again, I add a tad less water and a tad more oil. I use a small rectangular pan and bake 30 minutes.
One of my favorite ways to cut corners..even though I love "from scratch" brownies, and "from scratch" mashed potatoes, ~ I do rely on "instant" potatoes when Im in a hurry ( or by myself ) lol....

Melissa, I've been buying Bob Evans mashed potatoes (already prepared, just heat in microwave). You can find them with the meats at my grocery store. OH MY GOSH. They're amazing. My kids don't even want homemade anymore. So I figure why bother. :) You should try these! They're even quicker.
