High Tea and Other Fun

Missy Tippens

My daughter is studying abroad this summer and having a wonderful time! She sent me some photos recently that I wanted to share.

They got to have high tea at the British Museum! It looks like a wonderful time. Here are some shots of their delightful food. I found this menu online (click here), so this may tell us what we see on the plates. YUM!

I also wanted to share a pretty shot of Amsterdam from this past weekend (it may be a little grainy because it's a screen shot of a Snapchat video).

And here are a couple of photos from their time in Scotland.

the view from her hotel room in Dundee
I'm not sure where this photo was taken! We can play Name the Castle/Palace

Boat trip on Loch Ness (screenshot of Snapchat). No monsters seen!

I hope to have more photos for later. Most are on her REAL camera (I don't know what that is anymore now that I use my phone all the time!), so I haven't seen them yet. :) These are just a few she sent from her phone.

I wish I were there! They've been to a ceilidh (a traditional Scottish celebration), to the Ceres Highland Games, to see The Lion King, to Shakespeare's Globe Theater, and to so many other fun places.

I can't wait until she gets home. But I'm thrilled for her to have this opportunity to do research, take two classes and have some fun on the long weekends. :)

  1. This is the trip of a lifetime... and such fun, quaint, cool places to visit! I've never been overseas, and it would be marvelous to see things like this. Good for her, to take this time now, when she's young and single, to open her horizons! Love this, Missy!

  2. How cool is that?! Missy, I know you miss her, but think of all the memories she's making and the stories she'll have to tell when she gets home. Our oldest son did a similar trip to Puerto Rico last summer. He's our beach boy, so it was the perfect trip for him. And the memories and stories still live on.

    1. Yes, Mindy. I can't wait to hear more! Plus, she'll still be in school with most of the kids who are on the trip that she's now grown close to. (16 of them)

  3. What a wonderful trip! I did the 70's version of "The Grand Tour" when I was her age. What wonderful memories!

The High Tea looks fabulous. And now I'm hungry for scones. :)

  4. What an exciting opportunity for your daughter!!!!! I love a good high tea! Scones with strawberry jam and clotted cream. Drool. There's a very old hotel here that serves high tea between 2 and four in the afternoons. A great way to bring business into their otherwise quiet dining room at that time of day. I used to take my daughter for special occasions...or sometimes just because and we'd get all gussied up and have a grand old time.

    1. Sounds wonderful, Kav! Years ago, I went to high tea at the Ritz Carlton in Atlanta. Loved it! I need to do that again.

  5. Oh Missy, this is wonderful.

One of my daughters did a school trip to Greece (She was the Classical Studies major). The English Lit major spent a summer in London with side trips to Wales and the English countryside. She loved it so much that she went back to spend time farming in Ireland and England.

That same daughter and I were just visiting the cutest little tea shop in Ogunquit. They had the most delightful selection of tea pots and cups and an extraordinary selection of teas!

And I did get an amazing strawberry scone for the 4th.

    1. Mary, that sounds like an amazing trip that your daughter had! I'm still craving scones! I somehow don't think that'll fit my Weight Watchers points. LOL
