Snow, Sliders, and Songs

Hello, everybody! Mary Jane here with a tasty little sandwich that we had somewhere around New Year's Day. I was a little wary of the butter (won't it be soggy??) but it was delicious!

But first...
All of our snow melted... and then it snowed AGAIN. Hooray!! Our governor declared it a state of emergency, but where we are it was simply lovely. A little icy. Nothing we couldn't handle!
 Our kittens love it!
This kitty picture makes me laugh. Look at the kitten's SMILE!
My seven year old is a gardener in training. His morning glories were blooming and I got a picture.
Of course there was lots of sledding.
Here they're acting like zombies... Notice the lack of sledding hill competition. Sometimes it pays to be home schooled!
This picture has no purpose. It just made me laugh so I included it.
So, these tasty little baked sliders were quite a hit. (This one has a little lettuce added to it.)
 Aren't they adorable?
So, first, some round dinner rolls. Potato rolls are fine. The tougher the better. I was afraid they'd be too tough to eat but the butter and the heat really softened them up.
Inside, layer with salami, ham, a smear or mustard, and sliced prosciutto and mozzarella. (This is after baking. Nice and melty!)

Some people add a little mayo to the inside but I figured the butter would be enough.
Add to the pan (and here's the crazy part) add one whole stick of melted butter. Pour it all over. Then sprinkle the tops with chopped parsley.

Bake at 350F until the cheese is melted, about 20-25 minutes. Don't worry that they're going to turn tough. The butter keeps them soft.

MMMM. These were such a huge hit! Definite party food!
And now for the Song portion... I've linked it there but I'm not sure if it will work. It says it will. Do we believe it?? Hmmmm.

In other news, I cracked the top 100 of ALL Amazon paid books! SO exciting. I was hoping to get to, say, 99, but my boxed set went all the way to #42, with over 4500 downloads. I had to celebrate... by going to bed early! LOL. I'm a party animal, what can I say?
In case you'd like to get the set while it's still available (only for a few more weeks), you can find Along the Cane River boxed set here.

Until next time everyone! Keep warm and I hope you enjoy some delicious food this weekend. :)

  1. Oh my gosh, huge congrats on crashing that glass ceiling! Go you!!!!!!!

I love that your kids are getting a chance to have fun and frolic in the snow. We generally get snowy winters, so our kids were raised sledding and building snowmen and snowpeople and snow dinos and spraying them with Green Water on super cold days to color their animals. So much fun!

Winter is my peaceful time.... I get more writing time, more indoor fix-it time and it's a little quieter because there's no farm stuff going on.... But when March hits, I am SO READY!!!! :)

    1. That's so funny! Summer is my time to get everything done because people are OUTSIDE. In this weather, I'm either out with them or they're under my feet...

And THANKS! I have some great friends giving me advice and I started working toward that last year January. I'm a long-term goal type of girl!

  2. Sliders... Lacey made two trays of Sliders for our Christmas gathering.... They were so good. She used Hawaiian Rolls, sliced the whole twelve in half, and layered them with fillings.... Philly Cheese Steak sliders, Chicken Cordon Bleu, and Chicken Wing mix.... The crowd went wild. What a great idea, Mary Jane!!!

    1. YUMMMMMY. I did make a batch with Hawaiian rolls but everybody thought they were way too sweet. I loved them! But I love everything... except blue cheese and cabbage!

  3. Your snow looks like so much fun. It reminds me of the snowstorms we had when I was a kid. There's something about how fast NYC cleans up after a snow storm that makes it feel odd. Last year we had the worst blizzard in NYC history in terms of snow accumulation - and we didn't even get a snow day! The storm was on Saturday and my Sunday afternoon, all the streets were clear.

The sliders look delicious. I sometimes think I'd be happy just to live on sandwiches.

    1. WOWWW. People are still struggling to get out of their driveways, everyone is checking on elderly neighbors, lots of community pulling together to help those who can't drive in the snow. Here, they just don't have the budget for the plows and don't use salt on the ice, so either you've got a truck with chains, or you're out of luck!

  5. I tried the song and it says it expired. So sad. I hope it feels better soon. :-)

Congrats on those Amazon numbers. Exciting stuff!!!!! Even if I'm not an ebook reading girl.

That stick of butter is kind of scary...but you tried it and it worked. I'll have to think up a vegetarian of this.

Love your snow pictures...and that you are the kind of loving humans who make footpaths (or should that be pawpaths?) for the kitties.

  6. Thanks for sharing the snow and animals pictures. What a bright spot with the morning glory bloom.

Those sliders are delicious. Our sister had some on the
menu for our family celebration of mother's birthday on 12/26.

  7. These sliders are a new idea for me. I've seen sliders burger style - bitty burgers on bitty rolls. But these? I HAVE to try them!

This winter will be a memory maker for your children! We've lived with snow off and on over the last thirty years (depending on where we lived), but our children still remember one winter in Northern Indiana when it snowed, snowed, and snowed some more. Their snow forts lasted all winter long, and they still remember it, even though it was close to twenty years ago. :)
