Catching Up

Tex here and I don't know about you, but after all the holiday fun and almost a week at the ranch, I've got a lot of catching up to do.
Yes, I've been doing plenty of cooking, but mostly the same old same. I even made cupcakes this weekend in honor of my son-in-law's birthday.
These were not them, but they looked pretty much the same.

So with copy edits due for one book and a looming deadline on another, some time at the ranch was just what I needed to clear my brain and look toward 2017, a year sure to be filled with many changes for the Obi clan as we bid farewell to the suburbs and go country. But with beautiful winter views like this, I'm sure we'll find a way to survive.
And, of course, a campfire is always available to chase the chill away.
One of my favorite things about winter at the ranch is that it's calving season.
We saw this little fella right after he dropped, about five hours before I took these pictures.
So cute.

And guess what arrived soon after we got back to the burbs?
Yes, that's actual snow, though I'm sure every one of you north of the Red River is laughing. Granted, it wasn't much, but it sure looked pretty coming down. Considering we were 80 degrees on Christmas Day, I'd say it was a nice departure.
And when the snow moved out, we were left a beautiful sunset.
Of course, there's always time to catch up with family.
There's nothing I love more than when we're all together.

So that's what I've been up to these past few weeks. Now it's your turn.
What have you been doing as 2017 begins?

    1. Thanks, Missy. It's so rare that we have them all together, so when we do, it's definitely an event.

    1. Thanks, Ruthy. And like I said, once we move and get settled, you'll just have to come visit us at the ranch.

    1. So does this mean that you are or are not one of those people who makes everyone take their shoes off at the door? I've tried that at the camphouse, especially when it's muddy, but does anyone comply? No. So I've simply learned to live with it. Or lock them out until they do comply. :P

  4. What a great family picture!

And that calf...oh, my, how cute. We don't start having calves around here until much later in the spring - March or April. But then we get them again in October, in the fall calving season. They're so much fun to watch. :)

I know you're looking forward to your move this year. We'll be watching from afar!

Our next few months include a wedding (yay!) and book deadlines. That's the best kind of busy, isn't it?

    1. Jan, I love watching all the little calves. Especially as they start getting a little older, say around May or June you can see them playing with each other. So fun to watch. Kids are kids no matter what species they are.

I'm sure you all will be hearing a lot about the move over the next few months. All the phases of chaos. It should be interesting.

  5. I can't believe you're moving to the ranch with the snakes. Eeeeeep!!!! Says this city girl. :-) I also can't believe it was 80 on Christmas day! I think I'm living on the wrong end of the continent.

Love all your pics and catching up -- praying wonderful things for you and your family in this new year.

    1. Kav, I look at it as a mission field. I'm there to rid the world of as many snakes as possible. :P
Okay, so as long as they don't come near me, they're safe. All bets are off whenever one crosses my path, though.

And yes, you are on the wrong end of the continent. There are lots of Irish folk in Texas and my BIL is Canadian, so you'd fit right in.

  6. Love the ranch pictures, Mindy. And family. What a blessing.

Kav, I have the same thoughts about the snakes. That was my first clue that Mindy is FIERCE!
