A Concert and Late Night Atlanta Local Food

Missy Tippens

Last weekend, I got spend a fun evening with my middle child. He and I both love classical music, so this season, I bought a 4-concert series to the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. My son and I selected three performances for our series, and then for the fourth, I picked one I knew my husband would love (it was called Cirque de la Symphonie and involved acrobats, jugglers, etc. to help entertain him!) :)

This past weekend we got to enjoy Brahms German Requiem and also a world premier of American composer Jonathan Leshnoff's Zohar. Both were performed with the outstanding ASO Chorus (I usually choose concerts that involve the Chorus).

Before the concert, we ate an early dinner. But we ordered a small pizza that turned out smaller than we expected. My son probably could have eaten the whole thing. LOL

So afterward, I offered to feed him again. Where do you go at 11 pm in downtown Atlanta with a hungry college kid??

Delia's Chicken Sausage Stand!

Go now and check out their menu. You will be drooling. Then please come back. I have more to share!

This is the second time my son has taken me there, and I love it. They have such a cool menu. And organic, locally sourced, handcrafted chicken sausage made into a variety of dishes.

Here, he's eating the Chickie Philly Classic. It told him to eat up, because those green peppers were probably the only vegetable he'd have all week! (He's not my healthiest eating child.)

I went in the place thinking I would have dessert (saving that item for last). But I got sidetracked when I saw the sweet potato pancakes and chicken sausage links! Once I ate those, I couldn't even consider dessert.

And the real draw for my son? THE CAKE SHAKE. Milk and sugar and vanilla with...a whole cupcake thrown in!! Red velvet was his choice. These are so good! Next time you want to make a milkshake, toss in a whole cupcake, icing and all. You'll be amazed! (Yes, you guessed it. That's my recipe for this week.) :)

Next time you're in Atlanta, check out Delia's. There are several items on the menu I now want to try. One is The Double D Delight: a Krispy Kreme doughnut, sliced, grilled and filled with cherry cream cheese, topped with a chicken sausage patty. Oh. My. Stars.

  1. I love sausage sandwiches. I love them so much, smothered in peppers and onions.... Now I am so hungry!

But the shake thing: I will confess that I don't dare drink milkshakes. They are like crack to me. I love them so much, and once I have one, I want another one, and another. Isn't that funny? I can discipline myself over ice cream, but once I've had a shake I'm like waiting for the next one! And then salad doesn't cut it.

    It's a girl thing, I expect.

  3. The restaurant looks fabulous! Just the kind of place my college boys would gravitate to.

We bought season tickets to the symphony this year, too! The Black Hills Symphony isn't as large or prestigious as the Atlanta Symphony, but they play some awesome music. At the last concert they played Brahms's Pastoral Symphony - I guess the symphonies are on a Brahms kick this year!

OF course, we go to listen to the bass section. The co-principal is pretty awesome. And she just happens to share our last name - until June 11th. :)

    1. I forgot to mention that I'm a shake junkie, too! But when I get the craving, I make a Trim Healthy Mama style smoothie. No sugar. Low fat. Low carbs. And it takes the edge off.

    2. OH, Jan, that's right!! I forgot that your daughter would be there!! So exciting. No wonder you get season tickets! :) :)

Yeah, I guess THM doesn't recommend dumping in a whole cupcake icing and all. ;)

  4. This Yank is having a hard time with all this.

I guess there really is a Mason Dixon line for food - or else I just go to the wrong places. :)

  5. Ohhhhh, this makes me want to travel!! I want it ALL. Sometimes I wonder why people are so concerned with eating healthy, and then I realize that if I had half the restaurants in my town, I'd probably have to worry, too. We don't have anything but mcD's and I can certainly abstain from that. LOL.

    But this?? YUMMY.

BTW, we're huge classical music fans here. We recently made a new friend who loves Shostakovich, which has never been on our family classical music rotation, so it's been fun to have him always putting on his favorite composer. New experiences!

  6. P.S. I skipped to the shake picture before I read the words and I got scared for a moment by that label. Chicken shake! (I'd probably still eat it...)
