More NYC Eats - The Counter

RWA 2015 was outstanding in so many ways. One of them being that we were in one of the largest cities in the world, with some of the greatest restaurants in the world. Like this one.

Welcome to The Counter, a great little burger joint in the heart of Times Square.

At The Counter, you can order one of their specialty burgers or build your own. At first I was tempted to build my own. But I could do that anywhere. Time to live dangerously and order the house specialty. In this case, it was called a Counter Burger.

I had already dug in before I remembered to take a picture.
Sharp provolone cheese, mushrooms, lettuce, tomato and onion strings piled on top of a 1/3 lb. burger and served on a brioche bun with sun dried tomato sauce.

The only thing that could make it better was a side of sweet potato fries served with chipotle mayo.

When I ordered the fries, I was planning to share. However, it seems that everyone else at the table has ordered their own.

And you notice how my burger was cut in half? I thought there was no was I'd be able to eat the whole thing.
Boy, was I wrong.

And those fries? I ate every single one of them, too.

Good thing this was the day of the Harlequin party so I could boogie off all those calories.

Yes, this was one of those unforgettable meals. One I'm not sure I even want to try to recreate at home. Because if I did, I'd eat nothing but. And let's face it, a girl can't boogie for three hours straight every night of the week.

What's your most unforgettable meal?

  1. That burger looks fabulous! And the fries!!! I'd be in heaven :)

Most unforgettable meal? Hmmm. Most of the time, meals are unforgettable because of who I'm with :)

But if we're going to look at food alone, it has to be the first time we went to Black Hills Burger and Bun. Fabulous burgers, and you get your choice of beef or bison. And the buns! They MAKE these burgers!

And now I'm very, very hungry.

    1. Black Hills Burger and Bun. That just sounds fun.

They offered bison at The Counter, too. Though I opted for plain old beef. No regrets. 😉

And yes, the fries were some of the best I've ever had. Wish I had some right about now.

  2. Sigh now I'm craving a burger too....a nice, juicy veggie burger. Yum. There's a burger joint close by that serves a huge number of burgers including multiple veggie burgers. It isn't often a vegetarian gets a choice on a burger.

Hmm...most unforgettable meal? Sigh that would be Daphne's on the market. They had a to die for pecan burger , served with a secret sauce and your choice of home sweet potato fries or spinach salad. Won't tell me how many times I chose the fries over the salad. Alas, the restaurant changed ownership and names and eventually messed with their menu, wiping the pecan burger into oblivion. So sad. It's been years, but I still mourn the loss. Sniffle.

    1. I think I recall you mentioning that place before, Kav. Maybe not by name, but I remember you talking about how good their veggie burgers were. So sorry it's gone.

Hard to believe they had multiple veggie burgers, though. And a pecan burger? That even sounds good to me. I love pecans.

  3. That's looks so delicious! I've been craving beef lately. I figured I must need iron. :)

My unforgettable meals are those we had the year RWA was held at Disney World. A couple of the restaurants in the Swan-Dolphin hotels. Outstanding.

    1. Missy, I do the same thing. Whenever I'm craving steak, I chalk it up to an iron deficiency. Works for me.

You know, they'll be back at the Swan and Dolphin in a couple years. Time for another unforgettable meal. 😉

  4. Generally my most unforgettable meals involve lobster and Maine, but 2 of them actually are RWA favs. I have no idea what this was, but at the Sheraton in New Orleans for RWA 2001, I had the single best sandwich I have ever eaten. It had some sort of garlicky mayonnaise that was just to die for. YUM!

Then this year, I had the best ever corned beef sandwich from Juniors. Mine was also the day of the Harlequin ball so it counted as lunch and dinner.

I want to go back. But I dare not. Too close and it could become a baaaad habit.

    1. I know what you man, Cate. I try to forget those nearby things I love. It's just better that way. Otherwise, I'm in big trouble.

Garlicky mayo, you say. Sounds right up my alley.

Traveling is always a good way to discover new faves. Even if we're still in our own town. ☺️

  5. My most unforgettable meal has to do more with emotions than the food. Whenever we would drive to my moms she would put a pot roast in the crock pot and we would come in the door and smell that yummy pot roast. She lived at Lake Tahoe and we'd come for Christmas so it would be snowy and cold and we would enter a warm house with a crackling fire and have that yummy pot roast. And it was always special to spend time with my mom. We were very close.

    1. Oh, my goodness, Sandra. That's pretty hard to beat. A memory like that is priceless in so many ways. I bet pot roast is never the same anywhere else, no matter how good it might be.
