My Most Requested Recipe (Revisited)

Do you have one of those dishes that people always ask you to bring to parties?
Hands down, mine is my grape salsa.

People clamor for this stuff. Beg me to make it. Then beg for the recipe.
Yet, no matter how many times I hand out said recipe, they still want me to bring it.
It's quick, it's easy and it is so very, very delicious.

Now, I know what you're thinking, those of you who don't particularly like your sweet with your savory.
But this recipe wins the skeptics every time.

Mindy's Grape Salsa

Here's what you'll need:

  • 2 cups roughly chopped grapes, I like red, but you can use green
  • 1/2 cup chopped green onions
  • 1/2 cup (one small can) chopped green chilies
  • 2 tablespoons chopped cilantro
  • 2 tablespoons red wine vinegar (if you don't have red wine, just use whatever vinegar you have on hand)
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Tabasco sauce
Mix all ingredients together and refrigerate for at least one hour. Drain and serve with tortilla chips.

Just look at those colors. I think part of what makes it so good is that blend of sweet and salty.
And no, it's not hot. Just a subtle kick.

This makes a great appetizer any time of year, but if you're looking for something cool and refreshing--not to mention impressive--for your next outdoor gathering, I guarantee this will be a hit.

Now it's your turn.
What's that dish people are always asking you to bring?

  1. Well this is interesting. I fear I wouldn't make it like you. People ask me to bring spinach salad to parties. Easy stuff. Spinach, Ken's lite raspberry vinaigrette, feta cheese, pecans and dried cranberries.

  2. I can see why, Tina. Now that's my kind of salad!

  3. Two questions. Is there something it is particularly good on? And does it matter the type of seedless grapes?

    1. Julie, we usually put it on tortilla chips. Or a spoon. :) Haven't experimented with putting it on meat or anything, though now that you mention it, it might go really good on pork.

As for the grapes, I tend to gravitate to the red, but you can use green, too. Sometimes I do a mix of both.

  4. True confession: I'm one of the skeptics. Grapes and garlic?! But I trust you so I might just try it one day...for a pot luck. I'd be sure that no one else would bring the same dish. LOL

My most requested recipe is Tina's oatmeal cookies. She posted them on the first Seekerville New Year's Eve party and then again here I think. Anyway -- with raisins, without raisins, with chocolate chips, without chocolate chips, with M&Ms, without M&Ms, it's hands down the favourite oatmeal cookie recipe around town now. Well, in my limited circles. And no matter how many times I give out the recipe I'm always asked to make some for get togethers. I probably mix up a batch a couple of times a month, if not more, bake some for myself and then freeze the dough to whip up fast when someone in my life starts whining about them. The bestest cookies ever.

    1. Ooo, I must find that recipe. Of course, with peanut M&Ms, how could they be bad? :)

Kav, toss your skepticism aside and give it a go for your next gathering. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. :)

  5. Oh -- and guess what is now sitting atop my TBR pile? Rescuing the Texan's Heart -- my Harlequin order came yesterday. Woot!

  7. I can see why you go with the red grapes - the combination of colors just adds to the interest!

I'd try this for the next church picnic. We have some adventurous eaters in our group, and I know they'll love it!

And I've got to pre-order copies of both yours and Tina's books! September is going to be a good month :)

    1. You are exactly right, Jan, on using the red grapes. Between the green chilies and the green onions, there's enough green. Like I told Missy, let me know what you think.

I don't know, seems to me that August is a pretty good book month, too. :D

  8. I love September and August's book months!!!! :) Oh my stars, the colors alone are worth the food effect here. I love pretty dishes, they call to us, they tempt us in... I'd love to make this and we know I can't eat it because the chilis and onions will do me in, but I can totally see going to a different end of the spectrum with this and using broccoli and celery to make it Ruthy-friendly. And with the sweet addition of the grapes, I bet I could add mandarin oranges and make a splash of orange/green/red.

Pretty salads are just so much fun!
