Looks Like I Picked the Wrong Week to Quit Eating

Okay, so I didn't really quit eating, but after confessing my decision to make a lifestyle change last week, life just went absolutely bonkers. I can't tell you how many times I wanted to reach for something sickeningly sweet, fatty or starchy just to "help me get through." And, while I do not condone any of the behaviors in this video, this clip from the movie Airplane is what kept popping into my mind.

Did you know that when you add three more dogs and a seven year old granddaughter to an already chaotic life, things just get more chaotic?
But you know what they say, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

All this to say there wasn't much cooking going on last week. At least nothing new.

So what did I do?

Well, I definitely increased my veggie intake.

I got to indulge in my low-fat version of shrimp and grits. (recipe here)

And then there was that yummy salmon. (recipe here)

But truth be told, I really would have like some of this. (recipe here)

Or this. (recipe here)

But I didn't, so we're making progress.

And it was progress indeed. As I told you last week, I weigh myself every day and write it down.
I did not go up once this week. And when all was said and done,
I was down 4 pounds for the week.

Yaaaaayyyy!!!!!

Just the impetus I need to keep going.

Oh! And Jan, I got a notice that the book came in early so I should have it tomorrow.

Yay, yay!!! (because then maybe I can have something that will suppress my sweet tooth without adding to my bottom line. ;-)

But while I don't have a new recipe for you, I do have a gratuitous puppy pic.

Daddy has a new helper in the kitchen.

Happy Tuesday, y'all!

  2. Four pounds is fantastic! It's nice to get a reward like that after being so disciplined all week, isn't it? It won't always come off in big numbers, but you've made a great start. I'm going in search of that salmon recipe to see what you do that's different. It looks nice and crispy.

    I love your hubby's helper! :)

    1. The first week always seems to be the best for weight loss, doesn't it, Carol? Probably the body going into shock. While I'm very grateful, I know it will slow down. It's a long, hard road.

The secret to the crispness on the salmon is a little bit of butter in with the olive oil. Makes all the difference in the world.

    1. Susanna, we are not going to use the word fat. Fluffy, giggly, plump...

Like I said last week, 90% of weight loss/controlled eating is in our brain. I'm just surprised I was able to get my brain to cooperate. :)

  4. Congrats, congrats, congrats. Four pounds is awesome!!!!!! I did my weights every other day. :-) Was please to find that I had to up the reps to feel that burn. I guess hefty my walker through all the snow we've had this winter tones my arms and back more than I realized. :-) :-) This week I'm going in search of a bicycle thingy you can fit under your desk and see if that might work for me.

Love Daddy's little helper!!! Was the stool there and did she just take advantage of it or did you pull it out especially for her. Too darn cute!!!! I'm still on a doggie hunt up here.

    1. Thanks, Kav. And congrats to you! Bravo!!! Way to stick with the weights. It's all progress.

Yes, the stool lives in my kitchen because I'm vertically challenged. But Maddie is no dummy. She saw a way to get to that yummy smell and she took it. ;)

    1. I'm serious, Tina. It was a Cooking Light (or something like that) recipe. Key is not to go nuts on the grits.

Pork stir fry is what I had. Lots of veggies. Like you said, YUMMY. :)

  6. LOL!! Little Maddie is so cute!!! I love it. :)

I did pretty well the past week, too, Mindy. I'm down about 4 pounds, too. :) And I started Zumba again today. Yay!

    1. Zumba? You're a better woman than me, Missy.

Celebrating your four pounds as well. Whoo-hoo!

Maddie had a little "procedure" at the vet today, so I was gone all day (No puppies for her). She is not a happy camper. Poor baby.

  7. Yay, Mindy!

Saying 'no' to the sweets is the hardest thing EVER.

    Keep going!

BTW - I'm taking the week off. We're traveling from Thursday to next Tuesday, and even though I'll try to keep to the diet, I know I won't be able to. Northern Indiana Amish country is the land of carbs!

I'll tackle it again when I get home.

    1. Yeah, it's hard when you're on the road, Jan. just make the best choices you can.

Praying for you and remembering you as you travel.

      Hugs.
