Unusual Eating with Missy Tippens

The Belle, here. Last weekend we went to visit Tallulah Gorge State Park, up in the mountains about an hour north of here.

The gorge and falls are gorgeous, and it was especially nice this time of year. (We visited on July 4th and about had a heat stroke!)

The day we were there, they opened up one lock on the dam so that kayakers could have rapids for a day of recreation. It was exciting-and I admit, terrifying to watch them go down the falls. Here's a photo. You'll have to zoom in to see the bright yellow and green kayak at the top of the falls, preparing to go down. (Note, these are different falls from the photo above.)

And here's a photo of the visitors center where we started. They closed the bottom of the gorge because of the water release, so we walked the rim. Now, we're on the other side...

Quite a drop! And lots of really cool lookout points.

Here's some flora, too...

And later, some of the fauna--wildlife sneaking up on me!

After hiking, our son's girlfriend took us to her grandparents' mountain home. It was AMAZING. Here's my oldest, taking in the view from the back porch...

Then we went for some Italian food in Clayton, GA, at Mama G's. Had some yummy eggplant parmesan! And look at those rolls dripping in garlic butter. Oh, my.

Now, as for the title of the post! On the way back, I snapped a photo of this restaurant that I had heard of before but haven't visited. Would love to try it sometime! It's called...are you ready for this?...

Goats on The Roof.

And yes, there really are goats on the real grass roof! Pretty stunning site. I tried to snap a photo as we drove by, but it snuck up on me, and my husband was driving too fast. Earlier, we'd seen several goats on the roof. But when I took this on the way home, I think there was only one. You'll have to zoom in to see it. :) Click the name above to go to their website and see more photos.

All in all, we had a great day last Saturday! Hope you don't mind that I didn't share a recipe today. I made Mindy's Slow Cooker Lasagna the other day, and we had it (again!) leftover tonight. :) The recipe turned out great! I'll make it next time my family comes for a visit.

Oh, and while I'm here...

Don't forget my newest from Love Inspired, Georgia Sweethearts, is out NOW. I've heard of some Walmart sightings!

  1. Missy, I love the pics! Oh my stars, we have a farm about an hour away with goats that climb on this roof.... and have an elevator.... and they ring the bell for food... and it's hysterical!!! Mountain goats are at the heart of all roof climbers, I guess!

    Love this!

And your fearsome fauna is pretty darn cute!

  2. Sigh -- I'm marvelling at the lack of white stuff on the ground in those pics. I vaguely remember what seeing green and...well, actual pavement...but it's such a distant memory. And look at you (and the wildlife) without a coat on. No mitts either. Or a hat. And your nose isn't red. No scarf around your neck. Can't imagine what that feels like. Bet your sun is warm too. And you actually have one! I think I'm more astonished by all that than the goats on the roof! Can you tell I'm in the midst of a major winter storm up here? And I mean major. Bah!

    1. Kav, yes. Everything is green. And it's been in the low 80's lately. Gorgeous weather. I hope you get to see some soon, too! I can't imagine having snow that's hanging on. In fact, I can't imagine snow at all at this point. We never had a single flake this winter!

I'm sending warm thoughts your way! I hope the storm passes quickly. We had a thunderstorm last night. Lots of lightning in the distance.

  3. Gorgeous place, Missy. Looks like a fun trip. And Georgia Sweethearts is on my Kindle, just waiting to be read. So glad you liked the lasagna. Isn't it easy?

    1. Mindy, it really was. However I was short on time, so I parboiled the noodles while I browned the ground beef. It was an extra step, but we were able to eat in about 4 hours. :)

  4. I'm reading Georgia Sweethearts now! started it a couple nights ago I think but haven't had a lot of reading time. so far I think it's my favorite of your books - I really like this heroine but her sister I wanna smack upside the head.

is there an easy way to print/save the recipes ya'll post? this copy/paste with all the pics is good but I'd like to print just the words sometimes :-( and I still think some youtube videos would be cool! :-)

looks like a beautiful place. I remember going with my parents to Petit Jean park in Arkansas and had this brochure of all these hikes and my dad was asking me what I thought I was gonna do and I said well I figured I'd have time for about 5 of the hikes since they were only a mile or two - well he took me to the edge of these trees and said - it's a mile down and up - straight down and straight up - no elevator. I couldn't believe it! I actually started but realized there was no path - had to climb over tree roots and everything. Decided to head back up after about 10 steps and barely made it :-( I ended up doing a 2 mile or so 'hike' along the 'baby path' instead and that was enough scenery for me!

    1. Susannah, thanks for reading! I had such a good time writing this one. :)

What I've usually done when I want to save a recipe is to cut and paste the words only into a Word document. Then I print it (and also save on my computer).

That's so funny about what your dad said! Luckily, the place we were has steps that go halfway down. You cross over a swinging bridge (which is the thing of nightmares for me!). then you can hike down to the bottom--which I haven't done in recent years. I usually poop out and wait for everyone else to come back up. I people watch and do email on my phone. LOL

    2. I'm afraid I"m make it to the bottom and not be able to get back up!

haven't tried doing just the words..will try that with multiple pastes I guess! :-)

yep this is a good story - my other favorite heroine was the waitress and my favorite hero was the one they picked on in the last book - think that one I actually read in order! where they blamed him because the sister was screwed up.

    4. LOL, Susannah. Some of them are supposed to make you crazy and want to smack them. :) Of course, not so much that you throw the book against the wall! :)

    5. yeh it'd be boring otherwise! didn't throw the book against the wall- actually most are on my ipad so no way I'm throwing that! this was a good heroine though - she was tough and didn't let her past screw her up. the sister was good to wise up - if they'd divorced him being a fireman would've been prime pickings for any single churchgoing gal!

so I guess it's a good book when I get that emotionally involved LOL!

    6. LOL, Susannah. My poor firefighter would have all the girls after him, huh? :)

      Definitely, no throwing iPads!

    7. yep! reminded me a little bit of this scene in Miss Invisible - the girl was at a church singles group and described how the only 2 prospects were surrounded by the girls who had staked their claim or something like that. need to re-read that one - it was one of the few chick lit books I liked - and weird that I'd forgotten the person who recommended me had told me it was christian (and she was jewish so go figure) ended up having several books I liked - guess it's time to see if she did any more! but that one was funny because it pretty much summed up reality!
