Favorite Friday! The Best Burgers

Missy, here. Sharing another of my favorite things...

A cheeseburger from Five Guys Burgers and Fries! I ate there last night with my daughter. Granted, we'd been shopping for hours, and anything would have tasted good at 9:15 pm! But Five Guys is always my favorite, with the best burger anywhere! The softest bun. Fantastic, fresh toppings. Not too much beef.

And amazing, fresh-cut fries, overflowing their container, filling a brown paper bag.

So what about you? What's your favorite burger (even veggie burgers count!)?

  1. would you believe I am not into burgers? If I have to have one it would be aussie style. burger (probably beef) tomato, beetroot (beet) pineapple. forget the cheese.
but I myself like steak sandwiches, bbq steak not to thick with sauce (ketchup) and tomato again for get the green stuff in two slices of toast. Haven't had one for ages due to the fat issue.

But I am trying to eat better now must eat iron! good news what they found last week is benign I am ok. tired, exhausted, still a little dizzy but ok.

    1. Jenny, I love steak sandwiches. Love 'em! We were just saying we need to have a Philly Steak-Out Night and make big honkin' Philly Cheese Steak sandwiches... I am not thinking of calories, just deliciousness! And that's what usually gets us in trouble, right?

Good to see you're doing better day by day! Still covering you in prayer.

    2. uh oh I discovered philly cheesteaks too - there's a place kinda sorta on the way home from work that sells big greasy ones - seriously the grease comes through the wrapper - of course when I've gotten them(pre weight watchers LOL)I had them add lots of onions for 'health'. I dont' like the limp fries - haven't tried five guys though I saw one when I was out and about..we had a place called Jax that had fresh burgers and really good shakes but when their business picked up they started taking shortcuts :-( so I have to duck my head and say Whataburger is probably my favorite go-to burger!

    3. Susanna, I've never tried Whataburger either! That needs to go on my list of places to eat.

    4. Whataburger is just what I grew up on! :-) it was our usual eat-out spot and Wyatt's cafeteria was our usual special Sunday meal or bday place - very limited selection LOL! my dad was a picky eater- he'd done Whataburger only if it were up to him..still don't know how my mom ever got him to eat mexican food - I was already out of college by that point! oh and in high school we added a bbq place to the rotation - woo hoo!

  2. I haven't been to Five Guys yet. We have them in the next town, so now I must go.

Do you know how many carbs are in one HUGE CUP of their fries???

    Oh, heaven! ;)

And then they throw a scoop in the top of the bag, according to Beth.

Oy. Oy. Oy. But a good shopping trip should always end in food. Or with food. Food should definitely be involved!

Were you buying school clothes? Summer stuff? Fill us in!

  3. Isn't it funny how opinions vary? Last year my niece was visiting and we stopped at Five Guys because she loves it. My husband thought it was the worst burger he'd ever had. I do love their fries though.

Ruthy, do you remember saying something about driving to McDonalds to pick up fries to go with dinner? I kind of remember that. Anyway, I've do e that with Five Guys fries.

I'm not a big burger fan but we have a place here called Bare Burger. All their meat is organic, grass fed. I say meat because they don't just have beef. I haven't yet gotten up the courage to try the bison or ostrich burgers.

Jenny, I'm so glad to hear it's benign and you're doing better. Still praying for you.

Can you find grass fed beef? You don't have to worry about the fat then, because it's supposed to actually be good for you.

    1. I think most of our beef is grass feed. I know the lamb is. Oh did I say I got roast lamb on Sunday then cold lamb Monday. I love roast Lamb. I dont like fat or oily foods. In Hawaii I struggled with some of the food. I loved Mcdonnalds but couldn't eat it in Hawaii cos of the oil. seems they use a corn oil. we use a canola oil which is about 99% fat free.

  4. I can vouch for grass-fed beef and bison too.

Love Five Guys but it was once our "go to" Sunday night meal. And you know where all that burger fat ended up. So now it is a rare treat.

Jenny, keep going the way you are going and you will feel better in no time. Keep taking it easy!

    Peace, Julie

  5. I've never been to Five Guys...

I think there was one in Lawrence, when we lived in Kansas, and I think one might be opening in Topeka...but that's all 700 miles away now!

We love burgers around here. Love 'em. While we have favorite restaurants (Red Robin, Cheeburger Cheeburger), my favorite is always the Saturday night burger here at home. I use ground round (80% lean), grilled, choice of cheese, onion, lettuce, pickles, choice of mustards (we usually have at least three kinds in the fridge), etc.

Everybody builds their own, but the cheese is melted on while the burger is still on the grill.

    Chips on the side.

During the winter we make do with the indoor griddle, but it's just not the same.

My grandparents started the Saturday night burger tradition, my parents continued it and now we do it. I wonder which of our children will carry it on?

    1. Jan, would you believe I've never been to Red Robin?? I've always wanted to try it but just never seem to be near one when it's time to eat. And I've never heard of Cheeburger Cheeburger.

I love the idea of a Saturday night burger! I love home grilled ones. I just wish I could buy the buns at Five Guys. Hey, maybe I can! I'll have to ask next time. :)

  6. Missy, I just realized something.

Was that you snapping photos with your iPhone again?

I'm imagining your daughter laughing. Or have they gotten used to it by now?

  7. Jenny, that would be such an interesting burger!! We don't eat many beets here (although I love them!). I'm actually not too crazy about steak sandwiches unless, like Ruthy said, they're Philly cheesesteak (with the meat sliced thin). I guess I just love beef and cheese together! :)

I'm glad you got good news on the pathology!!! Such a relief!

  8. Five Guys is the BEST! I love the fries, I don't eat many fries anymore but always order them there, the good thing is the regular size will feed 2-3 people too.

    1. Wendy, I agree. We usually feed 4-5 of us on them. The first time I ate there, I was with my son. And we each ordered fries! We had no idea. :)

  9. Ruthy, our whole family can eat off one bag of those fries! There are tons.

    Shopping...

Hitting summer bargains. I bought shorts and capris (two beautiful pairs that are linen, which I've always loved!). Got a cute summer top. And even got a cardigan sweater on major clearance! So I'm set for summer and have jumped ahead for one outfit for winter. :)

  10. Mary, I wonder if your husband didn't like the burgers because they're not really thick? I don't like a ton of beef, so I like the Little Burger from Five Guys.

I've never heard of Bare Burger. Checked out the website, and it looks great!

    1. I think it was the almost fried aspect. He thought they were too greasy.

  11. Julie, I have a friend who used to order bison since it was so lean. I've eaten at Ted's Montana Grill a good bit and still haven't braved trying a bison burger. I just need someone to sneak it on my plate so I don't psyche myself out. LOL

    1. Missy, that reminds me of a story my husband told me the other day of how he accidentally ate horse meat while in France. He'd learned the words to ask the butcher for meat but didn't know that unless you specified cow meat, you got horse meat. He'd already eaten it by the time he found out.

  12. LOL, Mary!! No, I didn't think of it so found those on google images. I was so mad at myself for not remembering while there. My daughter would have made fun of me, though. And probably would have told me I was embarrassing her. :) She's still not used to me doing it!

  13. Missy, you'll have to take the plunge and try the bison. It's a lot like beef, but, um, beefier (?). When it's cooked right (not dry as a bone), it's delicious. Commercial bison is really beefalo, anyway - bison crossed with beef cattle - so there's no "gamey" taste at all.

  14. There's a huge log restaurant called 'The Bear's Claw' in Cache Creek, BC... a small community that sits at the junction of two major highways in the interior of our province. They serve a fantastic Mushroom Mozza Burger with a sirloin patty piled high with mushrooms, and accompanied by a mound of The. Best. Fries. Ever. Their Grizzly Burger is pretty awesome, too.

It isn't close enough to allow us to just drop in, but we make a point of stopping for a meal every time we drive through on our way to and from our cabin.
