Favorite Friday! Good Food and a Book

Missy, here. Back when we started doing Favorite Friday, I mentioned that P.F. Chang's is my favorite Chinese food restaurant. I ate there yesterday (by myself, with a book for my "date") and tried something new.

I thought I'd share it. Especially since I had just bought a new iPhone and wanted to take photos with it. LOL

I usually get the Chicken Chopped Salad and mix both the dressings (ginger and sesame). But this time I got the Thai Chicken Noodle Salad to try something new.

And here, I'll share with you my very first iPhone photo! :)

Here's a description: THAI CHICKEN NOODLE SALAD
Grilled lemongrass chicken, fresh mango, radish, bean sprouts, crisp greens and thin rice noodles tossed in a Thai peanut dressing.

I really enjoyed it! And I enjoyed reading during my meal equally as much.

I'm loving a book I picked up while at the Southern Kentucky Book Fest and Writers Conference. I attended a workshop taught by Alecia Whitaker and really enjoyed the reading she did of her YA novel, The Queen of Kentucky. So I bought a copy and had her sign it for me. I'm sure the folks around me on the patio at P.F. Chang's (I ate outside since it was such a perfect 80 degree evening!) thought I was crazy because I kept laughing out loud. :)

So, what's your favorite meal to have when you have a date with a good book? :)

  1. hmm I almost always have a date with a book but I guess mexican - chips/salsa and chicken fajita enchiladas are easy to eat one-handed - the chicken fajita nachos require 2 hands sometimes and I have to keep putting the book down...flan is good one handed too...olive garden is out 'cause I need 2 hands there since they seem to think we can eat 5 inch lettuce leaves no problem-o..bbq is definitely out - all my years in TX and I still can't do bbq one-handed so puh-lease don't let me break an arm...

  2. Susanna has the key - whatever I eat on a book date has to be done one-handed, and nothing that's messy.

Let's see...I haven't gone out on a book date for a long time...but I often eat lunch with a book (or the newspaper). Broccoli Slaw salad is perfect for that...

  3. I don't care for Chinese food but that picture makes me want an iPhone!
I love lunch by myself with a book, every now and then.

    1. I love Chinese food, but I"m a garden variety on the corner Chinese restaurant girl... Because they're in my budget, LOL! My reward to myself on Holy Saturday (a week of puppies, work, writing, cleaning, prepping and church services and choir practice seven separate times...) was to order a quart of Lo Mein and eat all I wanted by myself.

      :)

      LOVED IT@@@@

But if I'm hangin' with a book, I want coffee.

      Sigh.

  4. Susanna, you're right about barbecue being a two-handed meal!! :)

Jan, I have to admit I had a little trouble holding down a hard-back book that kept wanting to shut! I was eating with chopsticks, too, of course! Let's just say the table was a little messy when I left! LOL

  5. Donna, I LOVE my new phone! I took photos at the awards ceremony for my son today and was able to text them right to my husband. Very handy!

  6. Hey y'all book-daters, you need to get the neat book holder I have. It holds your book open and slanted up on the table so you can dine with two hands and still read. :-) Which means that any meal without company is a book date for moi!

  8. Hmmm...I can't find the exact one I have, but if you google image "book stand that holds book open" you'll see tons of different ones. Mine is acrylic -- clear, comes in two pieces that slide together in kind of an 'X' and you rest the book on the curled up edges so the pages don't turn unless you want them to. Not a very good description, I know, but mine is better than the ones in all those picture. Not that I'm gloating or anything. :-)

Mine holds the book up on a slant -- kind of like these two only different. LOL

  10. You know, Missy. Books are really not good for my waistline. I often find myself wanting whatever food figures prominently in the book. Recently I was reading Susan May Warren's Fool For Love and the friend of the heroine ran a donut shop. Ever since I've been craving donuts with my coffee.

    1. I wss craving donuts after that one too! the worse was a love inspired - forgot the author darn it - but the heroine's family had always had cherry orchards and hero bought the orchard and she was gonna have to help him the first year and man eerything had cherries in it - desserts, main meals - didnn't know you could do all that with cherries and here I am in southeast Texas where cherries go on sale for like 3.99/lb every so often during peak cherry season.

  11. Thanks, ladies, for the links for the book stands! I really like the collapsable one that I could carry with me to a restaurant. :)

Mary and Susanna, my problem is that reading distracts me so I don't even really notice how much I'm eating! LOL
