Valentine's Day Brownies

Valentine Brownies with Tina Radcliffe

Martha Stewart gets the credit for this ingenious idea, but I used my old standby EASY homemade brownie recipe.

½ cup (1 stick) butter melted
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 eggs
1/2 cup flour

1/3 cup cocoa
¼ teaspoon baking powder
¼ teaspoon salt
Heat oven to 350 degrees.
Grease 9 inch square baking pan.
Stir together butter, sugar and vanilla in bowl. Add eggs and beat. Stir together the dry ingredients. Slowly add to egg mixture, beating until well blended. Spread batter into pan.

Bake 20-25 minutes until brownies pull away from pan. Cool completely.

For today’s fun I made a double batch and used a 9” x 13” pan and improvised on the time (it took almost twice as long).
Cut the brownies out with a small heart shaped cookie cutter. Decorate.
Roll the leftover brownie into balls and coat in cocoa or powdered sugar or nuts. Your choice.

Mine ended up looking like Martha was drinking while she made them. Sigh. But they were delicious!!
Happy Valentine’s Day!

  1. I brought these to work and they literally disappeared. Two plates worth.

  2. I don't think anyone at my job would even notice the heart-shaped goodies - they'd just grab and stuff!(and I'd have eaten the odds and ends pieces!) looks yummy!

  3. What are you two doing up?????

Oh, that's right, it's your time. Not mine. I just love that they're heart-shaped! The little kids will love these, Tina, and the scraps can be used for the bottom layer of an ice cream cake.

    Oh, yum!!!!

  5. I was going to make heart shaped sugar cookies for my Sunday School class (and their siblings - life is much easier when I include the siblings), but these look even easier...hmmm...

No, wait, I'm not sure the mothers would appreciate chocolate crumbs on Sunday clothes...

Oh, I know! I'll make these for my boys! They'll love them!

Happy weekend, everyone. I'm off to do my baking for the day!

  6. Yes, make them for the boys, Jan! Do you guys remember that Nestle commercial about chocolate chip cookies? The boys came home to a pretty, decorated basket filled with fresh cookies??? How cute that was?

My kids got that ALL THE TIME, without the basket. Shoot, where are the thank-you notes???? There should be a GAZILLION by now, don't you think?

    I might slightly pout.

  7. Truthfully, I loved the brownie bites better than the hearts. The bites were so delish.

  11. Apparently Martha and I were drinking together. 1/2 cup flour. I swear to you I did this at 9 am in the morning. I was totally sober and I was rushing to get ready for work.

    1/2 cup flour.

  13. This is more fun that a double martini.

Okay, you outed me. I am really a secret agent and the morning I did the recipe I was busy trying to save the world. I got distracted.
